English language - basic facts:

  • part of West Germanic language family, where belong Dutch, German, Luxembourgish, Scots etc., it is western sub-branch of Germanic branch of Indo-European family
  • first language for most of people from United Kingdom, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Ireland
  • second and official language for people in many countries and international organizations
  • grammmar has less inflection than Dutch or German and does not have grammatical gender and adjectival agreement
  • it uses Latin alphabet with 26 letters
